Our Expert Commentaries
Throughout our first season we expanded our reach of on-screen commentary to a well-rounded group of authors, film scholars, and everyday filmmakers. They include:
-
William C. Martell is a screenwriter for HBO & Showtime and author of Hitchcock: Experiments in Terror.
-
John P. Hess is host of the popular FilmmakerIQ tutorial site.
-
Parker Mott is a contributor to Film Slate Magazine, and is a film director, blogger, and YouTube vlogger.
-
Lesley Coffin is a weekly critic for The Mary Sue, and author of Hitchcock’s Stars: Alfred Hitchcock & the Hollywood Studio System.
-
Forris Day, Jr., William DIckerson, Matthew Stubstad, & Benjamin Stirek are our resident filmmakers who give a filmmaker’s perspective on Hitchcock’s influence.
We continue to reach out to scholars, authors, and filmmakers to keep our series robust with a variety of perspectives on Hitchcock’s work. If you're interested in being a part of the series, please contact us.
What is HITCH20?
Until now not much has been said about the twenty TV episodes that Alfred Hitchcock personally directed. We think they are as good as - and often even surpass the quality of - his feature films.
Hitch20 is a documentary video series bringing the forgotten skills of Hitchcock to today's pro filmmakers, film students, and the wannabe videographer. We examine each of the 20 episodes of television that Alfred Hitchcock himself directed, through the lens of a filmmaker.
The series is written and produced by Hitchcock scholar Jeffrey Michael Bays, author of Between the Scenes and How to Turn Your Boring Movie into a Hitchcock Thriller.
Our Reach
We have been consistently number one on Google for a search of “Hitchcock techniques” (and similar) for the last decade. Even the generic search for “film techniques” puts us in the top 5. In fact, the top three Google search results are us, including our YouTube channel which reached 70k views last year alone.
We are also the top search result within YouTube for “Hitchcock techniques.” Our top Hitchcock video hit 40,000 views on its first year of being posted, and we are shared on filmmakers’ tutorial sites like Indiewire, No Film School, and FilmmakerIQ frequently. Our YouTube channel has 2500 dedicated subscribers – 2400 of those were added since the premiere of Hitch20 - and we are adding new subscribers daily.
One thing is certain – there is a hunger for Hitchcock material out there and Borgus Productions is on the leading edge.
